MIT Lebanon Challenge 2020, 26-28 June

09 Jun 2020

Dear LIFE Members, Scholars and Friends,

Today, more than ever, Lebanon needs solutions that will help in its recovery. This is why we are delighted to be partnering with MIT, for the MIT Lebanon Challenge 2020, a 48-hour virtual hackathon designed to unite diverse minds in addressing the country’s most pressing challenges.

Taking place from 26-28 June, this challenge aims to create a common platform that brings together diverse stakeholders from Lebanon and the diaspora. Throughout the weekend, participating teams will develop ideas to address the challenges our country is facing and then pitch their ideas to the judges. MIT will be supporting the teams and ideas that come out of this event through a post-hackathon implementation phase.

The hackathon will be organised around 3 tracks:

  1. Basic needs: Ensure the provision of basic goods and services (food, shelter, clean water, healthcare, energy and waste management) to residents of Lebanon, especially the most vulnerable.
  2. Industrial economy: Strengthen local agriculture and manufacturing to reduce reliance on imported goods.
  3. Knowledge economy: Develop the technology and digital sector - create software products to increase the export of services to the region.

This a unique opportunity for the diaspora and the young people in Lebanon to work hand in hand to create solutions for our beloved country.

Hence we are seeking motivated LIFE members and their children (16+) from all professional and academic backgrounds to join virtually as either:

  • Participants
  • Mentors - Please include LIFE in the "How did you hear about the MIT Lebanon Challenge?" question on the survey.

All applications need to be submitted before 21 June. For any enquiries, please email

We are brought together with a passion for Lebanon and a strong belief that we can make a difference. We hope that you can join us on this journey

With best wishes,
The LIFE Team
