LIFE Fourth Gala Dinner Highlights

20 May 2016

Dear members and friends,

Last Thursday, May 12th, LIFE held its Gala dinner in the majestic setting of the Natural History Museum in London, with about 430 members and friends coming together from around the world.

Upon arrival, guests enjoyed a busy cocktail reception and a performance by Shaun Agostine, a 14-year-old award-winning pianist and composer who has played at events including the Eduard Kunz piano concert in Dubai and the Julliard School in New York.

During the dinner in the beautiful Hintze Hall, our Chairman, Marc Malek gave an insightful welcome address, commenting on LIFE’s growth and milestones since our last Gala. He also shared LIFE’s vision statement: “We believe Lebanon to be a country best defined by a global community of more than 16 million people spread over 6 continents. Beginning with Finance, a discipline anchored in our history, our vision is to create a shared platform that transcends borders and affiliations, encouraging all Lebanese around the world to support each other, nurture the upcoming generations, drive positive change and promote cross border equity for our nation”.

Sir David Rowland, former Chairman of Lloyds, also welcomed the guests to London with a warm speech about his own links to Lebanon.

This year’s keynote speaker was Senator John Sununu, one of the first members to have joined LIFE’s Honorary Board of Advisors, US. He spoke with passion about his Lebanese background referencing his career and life experience.

The live auction, led by Hugh Edmeades, International Auctioneer at Christie’s, together with a silent auction, helped us raise a total of $1,075,000. All the proceeds will go towards LIFE’s Nurture programmes aiming to help the next generation succeed in the world of finance.

Paola Barbarino, our CEO, concluded this very special evening by thanking all those who had come from so far and expressing how “proud we are of LIFE’s progress in the last 18 months since our 2014 Gala dinner”. She thanked the participants for coming together again and showing what the Lebanese diaspora is capable of.

Thanks to all of you who attended and a special expression of gratitude to our donors and bidders for their foresight and generosity.
