The LIFE Geneva chapter was delighted to welcome members and non-members for a discussion on Fintech, with main speaker Dr. Omar Kamal.
The presentation began with an introduction to the world of Fintech, followed by a discussion about the dynamics of the industry and its impact. Dr Kamal then presented a few case studies and gave pointers as what to look for when investing in Fintech.
The 2 hour session was very interactive with vivid Q&A and the discussions continued well into the drinks that ensued.

Omar has a PhD in Management (Finance & Banking) and more than 20 years of experience in the areas of strategic advisory, investment management and Turnarounds in various geographical regions. He has co-led a major business group owned by a prominent regional family with global span based from Geneva-Switzerland. Prior to that, he was one of the initial founders and has acted as the CIO of a regional Middle East bank and before that, a 'Partner' with Ernst & Young (E&Y), on the advisory/consulting side of the business. In addition, Omar has been on the board (including Chairmanship) of more than 10 companies, one of which; listed at FTSE 250. He is currently serving as an Independent Board member of the Arab Bank Switzerland and Tharisa Mining (AIM listed).
Most recently, Omar has leveraged his previous extensive diversified experience into high growth technology companies specifically in the areas of Fintech, Regtech, Scientific Innovation, and E-commerce. Depending on the specifics of the company, Omar has been acting at different/several capacities including a Digital Entrepreneur, Investor, Advisor, Board member and Business Transformer. His current portfolio includes a number of technology companies; some of which are considered among UK’s fastest growing “late-stage growth” businesses (eg onfido, threads styling, pirate studios, magpie, Cambridge scientific innovations and pockit).
Omar is also a member of YPO (Young President Organization), previously under the Alpine Chapter in Switzerland and currently the London Chapter.
