About our panel
Stéphane Abichaker is a Director at SHORE Advisory Services and is based in Riyadh. He has over 15 years of experience in banking and finance with an emphasis on investment banking and advisory.
From 2007 to 2016, Stéphane has executed diverse mandates, as deputy head and later as head of investment banking at Blominvest Bank, and since joining SHORE. The mandates span different sectors including Real Estate, Retail, Financial Services, Tourism, Contracting, Health Care and Technology. Prior to this, Stéphane worked in internal audit at Société Générale from 2003 to 2007, where he conducted general and specialized audit missions. Stéphane started his banking career at BNP Paribas in Paris in the debt capital markets division.
In parallel to his banking career, Stéphane has taught finance, strategy & research methodology at Université Saint-Joseph in Beirut, in both the economics and political science faculties.
Stéphane is a Certified Bitcoin Professional, a certification delivered by the CryptoCurrency Certification Consortium. He holds professional accreditations from the CISI institute in London under BDL requirements and a BS in Economics from Université Saint-Joseph, Beirut, Lebanon. He also attended ESSEC business school in Paris, France.
Giles is co-founder and chairman of Zopa, the world’s first P2P lending business. Zopa is shaping the future of finance by providing better value and service to consumers and has now made more than £2.5bn worth of loans in the UK, with over £800m lent in the last 12 months alone. It has won numerous fintech and banking awards, many for the quality of its service, and is now planning to launch a next generation bank to extend its range of investment and borrowing products.
Giles previously co-founded Caverdale in 1992, which he took to a £250m revenue motor retailer and sold in 1997. He then ran his own consultancy business, with large clients in the general retail and financial services sectors. He co-founded Zopa in 2004 and was CEO from 2007 to 2015.
Giles is also chairman of Bethnal Green Ventures, the accelerator for start-ups using technology to make social or environmental impact, and Market Invoice, the fintech platform where companies have realised over £1bn in working capital from investors, by selling their invoices. He holds an MA in experimental psychology from Christ Church, Oxford and an MBA from INSEAD. He received an OBE in the 2016 New Year’s honours list for services to financial services and was named fintech leader of the year in the Fintech Innovation Awards 2016.
Edward Asseily (moderator)
Ed is an investor and advisor to early-stage fintech businesses. He has also recently founded a new business to help financial institutions better understand their customers. He is an experienced corporate and retail banker and has had a varied career, most recently at Standard Chartered Bank. Prior to this, Ed co-founded a fintech business backed by Citi, providing outsourced internet brokerage services to banks and stockbrokers.
As Co-founder and Chief Digital Officer, Brad is leading the commitment to deliver 10x’s truly digital vision. Brad believes in the power of connecting data, technology and human insight to create high transformative innovations which have a positive impact on business and society.
Originally from Australia, Brad is a business leader and entrepreneur with a track record of creating unique business models and talented teams of people, focused on delivering rapid innovation and smart technology solutions to innovative brands around the world.
Dr Omar Kamal
Omar has a PhD in Management (Finance & Banking) and more than 20 years of experience in the areas of strategic advisory, investment management and Turnarounds in various geographical regions. He has co-led a major business group owned by a prominent regional family with global span based from Geneva-Switzerland. Prior to that, he was one of the initial founders and has acted as the CIO of a regional Middle East bank and before that, a 'Partner' with Ernst & Young (E&Y), on the advisory/consulting side of the business. In addition, Omar has been on the board (including Chairmanship) of more than 10 companies, one of which; listed at FTSE 250. He is currently serving as an Independent Board member of the Arab Bank Switzerland and Tharisa Mining (AIM listed).
Most recently, Omar has leveraged his previous extensive diversified experience into high growth technology companies specifically in the areas of Fintech, Regtech, Scientific Innovation, and E-commerce. Depending on the specifics of the company, Omar has been acting at different/several capacities including a Digital Entrepreneur, Investor, Advisor, Board member and Business Transformer. His current portfolio includes a number of technology companies; some of which are considered among UK’s fastest growing “late-stage growth” businesses (eg Onfido, Magpie, Threads styling, Pirate Studios, Pockit, Cambridge Scientific Innovations).
Omar is also a member of YPO (Young President Organization), previously under the Alpine Chapter in Switzerland and currently the London Chapter.
Remy is a partner at Calibrate Management Ltd and Fund Manager of Calibrate’ s early stage Venture Capital Fund. He has been actively investing, for many years, in high growth start-ups at seed or early growth stages.
Remy had previously worked in Investment Banking as Head of Morgan Stanley’s Corporate Credit Trading team in London. Prior to this Remy worked at JP Morgan and Bear Stearns as a Credit Trader and at Credit Lyonnais Asset Management as a Quantitative Analyst.
He holds an MSC in Financial Mathematics from CASS Business School and a B.A. in Economics from the American University of Beirut.
