About Spiro Youakim
Spiro Youakim is a Managing Director in London, with responsibility for the firm's Natural Resources practice, including Oil & Gas, Metals & Mining and Chemicals.
Spiro joined Lazard in August 2008 from Citigroup, where he was Managing Director.
He has advised numerous companies in recent years on a variety of M&A and capital raising transactions. At Lazard, his recent transaction experience includes advising: the Subcommittee of the Board of Directors of Royal Dutch Shell with respect to the acquisition of BG Group, Shell on the agreement of the revised Raizen joint venture with Cosan, Shell on the sale of Shell Refining Company to Malaysia Hengyuan International Limited, the Independent Committee of Polyus Gold on the unsolicited offer by Sacturino Limited, AngloGold Ashanti on the sale of CC&V to Newmont, Vedanta Limited on its merger with Cairn India, ENRC plc’s Independent Committee on the public offer from its founding shareholders and Qatar Holding in relation to the Glencore-Xstrata merger.
Spiro began his investment banking career in 1991 at Credit Lyonnais, and in 1996 joined Schroders, which ultimately became part of Citigroup. He was promoted to Managing Director at the end of 2005.
Spiro holds an M.B.A. from the Stern Business School. He is fluent in Arabic and French.
